Mehndi – The Art of Henna Body Painting
Mehndi is a traditional form of body painting from India. It’s an all-natural dye derived from the leaves of the Henna plant (Lawsonia Inermis). These leaves are dried and crushed into a fine powder.
Originally Mehndi was used because of its cooling therapeutic effects. Now it’s used primarily for personal body adornment – particularly for wedding celebrations and festivals. Mehndi temporary tattoos don’t require needles; it’s a safe, painless and strikingly beautiful decorative art form.
While Henna designs can be applied anywhere on the body, certain locations have special meanings, such as the palms (allows the bearer to receive and offer blessings), top of the hands, for protection. The foot connects the body, mind and spirit with the earth, this is considered a very spiritual place to apply henna.
